The public is invited to enjoy “Voices in Poetry” at the Elverhoj Museum of History & Art on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 2 PM. Come hear current gallery artist Susan Read Cronin and Laure-Anne Bosselaar as they continue their conversation about how art speaks and its relationship with poetry. To inspire others, Cronin and Bosselaar will read selections of their accessible and moving poetry. This free event is open to the public on a first come seating basis and is appropriate for listeners of all ages. While at the museum, stop in the gallery and see Cronin’s sculptures, wall pieces and poetry currently on display. Explore the theme of the show, Fables, Foibles and Fairytales, and what it is to be human. Her playful bronze sculptures and other media are bound to evoke narratives in the viewers’ minds and make them take a second look. The exhibit has something for both art and poetry lovers and you may even learn about the bronze casting process. Many of Cronin’s popular works are available for sale. Laure-Anne Bosselaar, Santa Barbara Poet Laureate Emerita, who will be joining Cronin for this event, grew up in Belgium and moved to the United States in 1987. Fluent in four languages, she is the author of several books of poetry and won the Isabella Gardner Prize for Poetry for her book Small Gods of Grief, which, along with Cronin’s two books of poetry, Notices and OPEN, will be available in the Museum Store. The poets will be happy to sign your purchased copies and they joyously exclaim, “Exit through the gift shop!” Elverhoj Museum of History and Art, located at 1624 Elverhoy Way in Solvang, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission; a suggested $5 donation for visitors is appreciated. The show Fables, Foibles & Fairy Tales will remain on display through April 24.
