Esteemed artist Roland Petersen is a Danish ­born American painter, printmaker, and professor emeritus at U.C. Davis. His career spans over 50 years, primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area and is perhaps best-known for his "Picnic series. " His work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among many. Petersen uses rich, thick pigment, and striking geometric designs to bring still lifes, figures and landscapes together into complex compositions.
