Coffee & Conversation with new SYHS Superintendent

Dear Santa Ynez Valley Community,

I hope this message finds everyone well. I am very excited to have joined the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District as your new Superintendent. The strong community support and reputation for academic excellence drew me to the district and I am deeply honored to be here working with the amazing team of educators and support staff as we prepare for the return of students to regularly scheduled, full time, in-person instruction on Thursday, August 12th.

We are actively planning for the start of school and our new one-to-one student device program. I am looking forward to taking the lessons learned from last year with hybrid and distance learning and continuing to support the integration of technology and future ready learning opportunities in our classrooms moving forward. This is truly an exciting time for education as we reimagine the possibilities for teaching and learning for the 21st century.

There have been questions around what school will look like when we return as it relates to health and safety measures. We are currently reviewing the updated CA Department of Public Health and County Health guidelines for schools and will be sending out information for parents and students starting next week. Please look for these important updates in future school communication and on the school and district websites.

Over the last several days I have had a chance to meet some of our amazing staff, parents, and community members. I very much appreciate the opportunity to hear from everyone about all the great things happening in the valley and am looking forward to meeting more folks in the coming weeks. I will be hosting a Coffee with the Superintendent on Wednesday, July 28 from 9:00am – 10:00am in the SYVUHSD Board Room. Please stop by, say hello, have some coffee and share your stories.

Again, I am honored to be joining such an amazing educational team and I look forward to working with the Board of Education, staff, students, parents, and the communities of the Santa Ynez Valley on continuing the pioneering tradition of excellence in our district. Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns, I can be reached at 805-688-6487 X3570 or via email at aschwab@syvuhsd.org.

I hope you have a wonderful remaining summer break and wish everyone a great start to the school year.

Andrew Schwab
