Caregiving Lecture - Lompoc

Lompoc Valley Medical Center Licensed Occupational Therapist Emily Garnica will offer tips to caregivers during a free community lecture to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Garnica will instruct caregivers about aspects of caregiving and assisting their loved ones with activities of daily living. She will also discuss transfer training, use of medical equipment, functional care in the home vs. community, medication management, safety precautions and emotional support.

The lecture is geared toward those caring for a friend or loved one struggling with age-related cognitive or medical issues.

Garnica previously worked as an occupational therapist for Lompoc Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation as well as in acute rehab at Kindred Healthcare and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital. 

The event is part of an ongoing lecture series sponsored by the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation in conjunction with the city of Lompoc’s Park and Recreation Division.

The lectures are free and ample parking is available.

The lecture begins at 6 p.m. at the DeWees Community and Senior Center, 1120 W. Ocean Ave.
